The Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Eng. Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Fadhli, confirmed that the announcement of Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Research, Development and Innovation, about national aspirations and priorities for research, development and innovation in the Kingdom is based on four main priorities: Including the sustainability of the environment and basic needs, it comes as a continuation of the continuous efforts of the leadership in establishing a sustainable future within the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
On this occasion, he said: "The launch of the Higher Committee for Research and Innovation in 2021 came as a result of the Saudi leadership's belief in the importance of this sector and as a completion of the work process and implementation of the programs and goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which among its main objectives is to support scientific research and enable innovation to build a knowledge-based economy and achieve true diversification of the country's resources." .
Al-Fadhli added that the establishment of the Research, Development and Innovation Development Authority aims to unify efforts in the government and private sectors, to contribute directly to building the way for the development of the research, development and innovation system to enhance Saudi Arabia's global competitive position as a leading country in the field of research, development and innovation.
Minister Al-Fadli explained that the environment, water and agriculture sectors are among the vital and priority sectors in the research, development and innovation system, and that the Kingdom is one of the leading countries regionally and globally in supporting qualitative and developmental initiatives, as it has launched the two largest initiatives in the region to preserve the environment "The Green Middle East Initiative and the Saudi Green Initiative He praised the Kingdom's leading role economically, socially and developmentally, and its continuous endeavor to provide the basic needs of people in terms of water and food, stressing the ambition of the Kingdom's global leadership in exporting water and food technologies, and highlighting its role as a global model in preserving the environment and the sustainability of natural resources.
The Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture indicated that the ministry's priorities include enabling partners in the research, development and innovation system to stimulate innovation and localize technologies to provide actual solutions in the ministry's sectors, using the latest technologies such as water technologies, biotechnologies, artificial intelligence technologies and the "Internet" and benefiting from the Fourth Industrial Revolution. He indicated that the holistic approach to national priorities and aspirations requires a great deal of coordination and effective cooperation with various parties, and this is inevitable in light of the requirements and opportunities imposed by the future and the present, and to ensure that the Kingdom is placed in the ranks of possible countries for research, development and innovation.
